Like Cats and Dogs (Leo)

Branches snapped, the underbrush rustling softly with footfalls as through the maze of trees a form rushed through them. In the opposite direction on the southern most beach a group of people had barely noticed the sudden disappearance of one of the those who had come to the party celebrating the missing island witch. At the edge of the party what had simply started off as a meeting of two strangers had turned into something less than desired by the young woman who dodge trees and branches with inhuman speed.

Talbot had already been feeling uneasy, not liking how suddenly the people who were vanishing were those with the most power over others it seemed. She had been sitting on the sidelines of the party, reading and watching, waiting... Part of he worried that something bad would happen because of the witch and his mate disappearing, and though now she was in a bad situation it had not been one she'd been expecting. A young man, a playful smile as he spoke with her, almost convincing her to enjoy the party and throw away her cares. As quickly as she'd begun to relax around him her own beast began to react. His scent had set her off first, but slowly pleasantries had turned feral and in her own attempt to leave she found herself in this chase.

The forest was a place that she'd only just begun to learn, but she knew enough to keep herself safe. Jumping across the low creek she rushed along the grassy bank, the green blades wet with due, hoping the water would throw her scent off just a little bit. He did not smell like a shifter, but she smelled an animal. Her own beast reacted harshly enough that as she ran Talbot struggled to keep herself in control. She wasn't about to head to the village, as safe as it was some of the time it would not be wise to set a trail right back for her makeshift home, so for now she just ran. Every few moments she would glance over her shoulder, trying to sense where the other was.

After a few more minutes had passed she stopped near a large tree, the heavy low branches bringing darker shadows in the already pitch-black night. Pulling herself up her dress caught on the smaller, green branches as she slipped up into the upper branches that wove together with the other trees around it as she carefully moved across to one and then another, making some distance between her and where she'd last stopped. Settling down among the branches as she peered down from the branches to the trail below. Perhaps he would lose her now, or maybe by now he would just give up if he couldn't see her or smell her.

Leo was taking his own time, maybe it was a bit cruel to do to
the woman but then again he hadn't become a dangerous hell
hound like he was for playing it nice. Plus this little chase was
nice on such a dark night, it made him excited to be on such a
little hunt. He picked up the pace every once in a while so that
she would see or here him every once in a while but then he
would always drop back, he didn't want to completely scare her
yet no matter how much he wished to burst through these trees
in his full glory.

He stopped for a moment at the little creek, oh so she was trying
now wasn't she? Leo gave a little growl of excitement at it but
she would have to do better than a little bit of water to put him
off now. Jumping over the creek he continued on her trail
following in the darkness getting more and more excited as it
went on. Why couldn't they all be this much fun here? It would
make his little "punishment" a hell of a lot more interesting.

Though all this chasing did start to annoy him, he wanted to find
her now and all these annoying trees were getting in his way.
Leo ran taking out branches with him, some just merely twigs
and some a bit larger but the last one as bigger around than his
waist. That caused him to stop for a moment, sure he had taken
it right off the tree but in his current state with this human look it
did put him off a bit even if he did get to where he was going.

Leo shook himself off from his little run in with the heavy branch
before turning around on the ground. His nose had picked her up
and she was close, very close. "Here kitty, kitty, kitty," he called
as his nose led him to a tree only a few steps away now. Looking
up his eyes just barely caught her. "Well hello there miss," he
smiled that innocent little puppy dog smile as if he hadn't just
chased her through the woods and taken out a poor tree, "Now
what are you doing all the way up there?"

Talbot curled up onto her branch. It was at best a tactic to let her catch her breath and think clearly as opposed to just letting herself run around as if she would suddenly thing of something that didn't involve showing the other right to her front door. As she had run she'd gotten the impression that Leo had been treating this like a game, his pace, every now and again catching sight of him, the loud rustle and snaps of branches. Even now she could hear them, and she waited, holding her breath every few minutes to see how close he was. The loudest sounded like a crack of thunder, almost like a tree falling as the last few fibers cracked and doubled over.

Her eyes didn't have to strain in the darkness, what little light caught them made them shimmer brightly, like flames dancing on short wicks. She could see the trees and the rest of the forest floor with an ease the girl had never noticed before away from the island. He was close, she could see him as he made a line towards where she was. Talbot pressed herself up against the trunk, feet pulled up on the branch as she tried to make herself small, harder to spot.

It only took a second for their eyes to meet to realize she'd been caught. Gritting her teeth against his "playful" little name for her. She wished there was something heavy that she could of thrown at him, crushed him and that awful smile as she looked down at him quietly. Tired, angry, and somewhere there was fear at how easily he'd kept up with her and so adamantly followed her this far out. The swirling emotions did little to help her keep the fragile control she had,a growl rolling from her lips.

"Well mutt I'm not keen on playing with mange-riddled beasts like you." Fingernails dug into bark, leaving marks that a human hand could not do, "I suggest you go play somewhere else. No offense," She spoke her voice taking on a tone that was polite, but it was tainted with sarcasm as she glared down at him, "But I won't be coming, I don't trust you."

Leo crossed his arms against his chest, that body that had done so much damage to the trees just to go a bit quicker and yet he was still standing. If he weren't otherworldly he probably would have killed himself long ago with all the things he had done over the years. He stared up at her with his own dark eyes just waiting to see if she would come down or not.

"Mutt?" he said putting on an overly dramatic tone as if the term really hurt him. "No, no, no," he said shaking his head before looking back up at her with that smile again, "I think its more like puppy. I mean I am much to cute to be just a simple mutt." Now, he really was playing with the poor girl up in a tree. His true form was anything but cute, on the polar opposite of the spectrum.

He moved forward leaning up against the base of the tree. "So are you going to come down or am I going to have to come up and get you miss Talbot?" he asked lightly hitting against the trunk using her real name for the first time tonight.
