The two finally arrived at the orchard, or well what was left of the old orchard. The trees surrounded and some being choked off by the weeds and plants that had grown between them over the years. Rein jumped up onto the old stone wall that was falling apart in places. A jump that would have been difficult for most but it was only about to his waist and an easy hop for him.
He watched the man enter the orchard at his own pace while Rein squatted on the wall with the flower still hanging in his mouth. "The orchard," he stated the obvious even if the orchard was in need of quite a bit of help. "Its a run down, dilapidated piece of dirt they still call an orchard," he shrugged, "but its the orchard none the less. The trees still show their fruits so the orchard it remains."
Rein watched the older man, Rhys as he had said, make his own path through the grounds. Quiet once more after that burst of words so uncommon for the untrusting rabbit.

Well, they made it at last. The orchard hadn't been that far from the village after all, but still Rhys's wound burned slightly from the exhertion. When he finally got to the old stone wall Rein sat upon, he went to the nearest tree and leaned against it for a moment to rest. He chuckled quietly to himself, a little out of breath.
"Look at me, all out of shape," he said, shaking his head. "You'd think I were an old man. Then again, I suppose I am, to you."
After a moment, he set down his walking stick beside him on the ground and reached up into the boughs of the tree to pluck a ripe apple. Bringing out the shine by rubbing it against his black t-shirt, he held the fruit up in the light to inspect it. It was nearly perfect. He brought it to his lips and took a bite, a line of juice spilling down his chin. He wiped his face on his sleeve and smiled at Rein.
"That really hits the spot!" he said, then grabbed another apple from above him. "Want one? Or are you content with chewing your flower stems?"

Rein hopped down off the wall not breathing as hard as the older man, but then again he ran around the forest on almost a daily basis while the other smelled like blood. That was a smell Rein had learned quickly here and with that rabbit like nose it was easy to pick up on Rhys.
"Old?" Don't know," he replied to the man slipping back into the simple words and chopped up sentences of before almost like those sentences before were all just a lie. Though honestly Rein didn't know how old he was, well he was old enough and the man looked older in a way but he wasn't positive on it all.
Rein looked up into the tree where Rhys had picked the apple from and then back at the man. He pulled the stem out of his mouth letting it fall to the ground. Not really wanting to start an apple on his own, Rein grabbed the older man's wrist and taking a bite out of the apple Rhys had already started. Without another word Rein smiled letting go of Rhys's arm before hopping clear out of a normal person's range onto one of the lower branches of the apple tree. "They're nice," he said simply from his new little perch, his eyes flickering around to all the untouched fruits above the reach of the ground.

Well, it looked like Rein's moment of talkativeness was gone as soon as it had come. The boy was back to speaking in fragments. Oh well, what could Rhys do about it? And besides, he was about to start eating in earnest once the boy answered his question...
But he didn't. Not with words, anyway. He simply let the flower drop from his mouth and, taking hold of the older man's wrist, bit from the apple he'd already started. Then he smiled and let go, hopping up into a tree. Rhys felt the color rush to his face. Did this kid have no personal space? No, probably not. Part of being half-rabbit, he expected, along with that crazy jump into the tree. He set the bitten apple down on the ground uncertainly. 'The forest animals can have that one,' he thought.
He looked up at Rein through the leaves and said, not unkindly but more with a sort of creeped-out fascination, "You're a bit of a nutter, you know that?"
Then he started on the fresh apple. It was not quite as ripe, but he liked the tartness. He picked up on a thread of conversation between bites.
"Well, I'm twenty-six, and you look, what, sixteen? I don't know. How old are you?"

Rein watched the man from his perch as his face reddened after he had jumped into the tree. Then the apple was set on the ground, well the first bite was always the best of an apple he guessed. At least thats what he thought, he couldn't remember where that idea had come from or even if it were his own.
The boy rolled over, his head now upside down to the other and those ears and dark hair flipping over thanks to gravity. Laying like this one could easily see how the skin slowly changed to fur going into those large rabbit ears. "Nutter?" Rein looked somewhat confused not hearing the word before or at least not as far as he remembered.
Then he started picking the leaves of the branch above him letting them fall down below as he continued to watch the man below. Rein was still curious but the leaves were so distracting for him, the way they felt and how they fell to the ground below. "They told me I was seventeen, but I don't know," Rein said not really seeing the importance in the number or age or whatever, "I mean they are probably right. Right?" He asked the man like he would actually know.

"Yeah, nutter--oh, I guess it is sort of a British term. It just means crazy or weird."
Rhys eased himself onto the ground with his back resting against the tree trunk. He finished his apple fairly quickly, being more hungry after the walk than he had realized, and threw the core out into the weeds growing all around the trees. It was a peaceful day, warm with a slight breeze, and not unbearably sunny due to a few clouds. He could get used to living in a place like this, if the weather was this pleasant all the time. He closed his eyes and sighed contentedly. Later, he'd gather up some fruit to take back to the village in his jacket, but for now he just wanted to relax.
"Hahaha, I don't usually judge age so well. One point for me," he said, then started, opening his eyes and looking up at Rein as a leaf fell on his face. He brushed it away. "They? Who do you mean, they? You mean to say you don't know how old you are?"

Rein listened to the man as he explained the word, well it was rather hard not to hear with those ears of his stretched out towards the ground. Well, evidently he was one of these 'nutters' as the man said. Hmm, well at least he was something which means he really was here, but was that a good thing? The boy's mind bouncing around much like a little rabbit would if it were in there.
Grabbing a couple handful of leaves Rein rolled back over onto his stomach on the branch. Now the world was right side up and Rhys was no longer upside down to him. Those large black and white toes curled hanging off the other side of the branch as he slowly let leaf after leaf fall to the ground. His aim was the older man's dark hair but many of the leaves had an idea of their own and an agreement with the wind to land otherwise.
"No I don't. Am I supposed to know?" Rein asked still looking down at the man as his little rain of leaves continued one by one. "The....," Rein paused trying to remember what the one had called himself when he had met him again, "The doctors that's who they are. The doctors who where there when I woke up again."

Rhys studied the boy for a moment from this new angle. It really was remarkable how the rabbit fused with the human in him. The large, rabbit-like feet, the long ears... even the fur fading into skin. How was something like that possible? The closest thing Rhys could compare him to was a lyger, but even that was nowhere near. Lions and tigers were practically brothers on the grand scale of things. But a rabbit and a human?
Of course, he had learned that it just wasn't good for one's sanity to question some of the things that went on on this island. He had tried, and gotten nowhere. He stroked his chin in thought, feeling the rough stubble. He doubted he would be able to shave anytime soon. What would he look like with a beard? He'd never tried growing one before. Smiling a little, he flicked away another leaf that had landed on his curly hair. Rein seemed to be making a game of trying to get them to do that.
"Well, I suppose I don't remember all my years, but I remember most of them. You don't remember birthdays? You must have amnesia or something. That would explain the doctors. Maybe you were in some sort of accident. But then, how did you end up here?"
He wondered if perhaps part of the process of changing into an animal erased your memories. Rhys was beginning to formulate a hypothesis in his mind: that this island, Ivory, slowly changed people into strange and unusual things. How long would it take before it changed him?

Rein was watching the man flick the leaves out of his hair with amused smile, looking like the kid he truly was for once. He couldn't remember the last time something had amused him like this, then again he evedently couldn't remember a lot of things. Though that didn't really bother the boy, all he was really interested in right now is laying on the branch as he continued to drop the leaves.
Then there it was again, well not the same exact one but one just like he had seen before. Another spider, all 8 of its legs working its way up the side of the tree. Watching the spider was much more interesting than Rhys since the spider was so much smaller and closer. Rein moved his hand letting the little creature crawl up into his palm before moving back again to watch Rhys as the spider walked across the boy's pale skin.
"Birthdays?" Rein asked, he put together birth and day as one but why would he have multiples? How was he born again and again? It didn't make sense to him and it utterly confused him trying to figure out how that worked. "Well they were always there through all the pain and when I woke up," Rein said watching as the spider crawled from his hand to one of the leaves, "then the next time I woke up I was here." He was more foucused more on talking to Rhys at that moment as the spider's leaf fell from his hand heading straight to were all the others had.
"Ahh...," was all the boy was able to say as he tried to catch the now flying spider but it was too late. Well, maybe Rhys would catch the large spider. Well Rhys couldn't miss it right? It was small, at least thats what Rein thought, but still noticeable.

Sitting out here, amidst the trees and the sky and the warm breeze, Rhys could almost forget about the stitches in his leg. He would never have guessed the island had a place like this when he'd first arrived, washed up on the shore. Yet here he was. It was a pleasant surprise.
He didn't know how to respond to what Rein was saying. It still sounded to him like a case of amnesia brought on by some kind of accident, but he wasn't going to push the matter. Likely anything else the bunny boy said wouldn't make much sense. He was already getting pretty vague.
Rhys felt another leaf land on his head. Before he could brush it away, a breeze nudged it off and into his lap. Looking down, he saw there was a spider almost the size of his hand on it! He jumped up immediately, ignoring the pain in his leg as he did so, his eyes wide as saucers. Normally spiders were no big deal, but when they were that size, he couldn't help but freak out.
"Son of a bitch!" he yelped, a little ashamed of himself but still not willing to go near the thing. He picked up the apple he'd set down earlier and chucked it at the spider, barely missing. It crawled halfway off the leaf and then stopped.
Rhys picked up his walking stick and went over to another tree near the wall, away from the spider, and sank down with his back against it. His leg was throbbing. Untying the handkerchief from around his thigh, he peered into the hole in his pants and examined his wound. He hadn't torn any stitches, but it was bleeding again. He wondered if there was some sort of remedy he could make from natural ingredients in the orchard, but sighed as he realized, even if there was, he didn't know how to prepare it. Ah well, it wasn't that bad. It would likely stop on its own soon.
