It was early morning, and a soft misty fog had fallen upon the pool below the waterfall. It was quite a sight to behold though the only one to see it was a young woman who lived in the cave behind the waterfall. She had claimed the waterfall to be her own little sanctuary since it seemed like the only safe place for a shifter like herself. The big black wolf had claimed the caves with most shifters like him roaming the forest, the sea of the south beach was kelpie territory, and the north beach was too rocky.
She had given up until the smell of water reached her nose when she had first explored the island two years ago. Ever since, she has made the cave her home, using what she had with her to make things more comfortable like making her bed out of her own down feathers. She could remember the day she arrived like yesterday, the boat she was on had been destroyed during a storm, and she had taken an inflatable life boat with only a few bladed weapons and clothing in her suitcase. Before she knew it, she landed on this island unable to leave.
At first, she was furious to be trapped for now she couldn't seek the vengeance against Odette, the one who harmed the person she cared for the most, but with time, she accepted that this was now her home, making the best of a bad situation. Despite her reminiscing about the past, she was very aware of her surroundings and heard someone approaching. She slowly dipped her feet in the water, taking her form of a black swan. She slowly swam from behind the waterfall to see who was approaching her home.

With morning came the relief of a chilly night, but brought with it the quickly rising temperatures the island seemed to be so fond of. Feathers, Philip thought, were most likely cooler than layers of fur. So he was grateful of his form, but this kind of heat could bring anyone to the ground. With a flourish a gray wings, Philip left his place in the sky, watching Ivory Isle awaken. He soared towards the ground, wherever he was. He looked down when he flew, as it had become a habit to stare ahead of him to watch for any sort of predator.
Philip found himself sitting above a familiar looking waterfall gazing down at a young girl. She couldn't have been twenty yet, he smiled in his mind as she took the form of a dark colored swan. It was not common that he saw one of his own kind. Of course, she wasn't and eagle, as he was, but she was a bird none the less. It had been a year or so since he had last spoken to one of his own kind. Without thinking, he found himself gliding down from the heights of the waterfall, past the young swan, and landing in the grass surrounding the pool.
Philip gave the girl a warm smile as he transformed back into his recognizable self. He shook his head and rolled his shoulders. After having been flying for hours, it was always awkward to change back into a person again. He was old, even for a shifter, in fact, he was one of the oldest on the island. He could not even remember the day he came there. All he could recall of a life before this place was a face. He wasn't sure whose face it was, or even if it was a boy or a girl. It was just a face. Two eyes, a little nose and a faint smile. It could have been anyone. A sibling, a parent, a child. He probably would never know.
"Hello, Dear. Sorry to intrude on you, but I was wondering... Well, to be honest, it has been such a long time since I last saw another aviary shifter." He felt a bit silly at that moment. He really had not thought of anything to say except for the fact that they shared the ability of flight, which she probably could tell. "You wouldn't happen to know of any others on the island, would you?" He asked out of curiosity.

Odile's eyes widened in as the noble looking eagle shifted into a man who was just as noble looking as his animal form despite her age. She often heard her mother speak to her father on how their kind were very rare so she never expected to meet any other avian shifters. She swam over to the grass and stepped up, shifting back into her human form. She was dressed in a pair of denim shorts and black tank top due to the hot weather. "I do know there are other people on the island. There are shifters here but you're the only one I've met as well as kelpies living near the south beach. Other than that, only a handful of incubi and sucubi, humans and vampires though there are whispers of a witch here as well, but I've never met that person" she said softly in a shy voice.
She wasn't the most social of people despite her friendship with Libby, one of the kelpies residing on the island, she hasn't really made any friends. Perhaps it was because she only had interactions with her family and all that left her was venegence against her sister. "I will say, outside of my family, I've never met another shifter, let alone one like myself" she said, walking a little closer to Philip. "How long have to been on this island, kind sir? I've been here for two years, and I have never seen an eagle in the skies when I've flown" she said to Philip, looking up at him with shy eyes.
She felt so awkward talking to him just because she felt like such a child compared to this man who exuded an air of wisdom that she didn't think she'd ever have. "Kind sir, my parents didn't tell me much about our kind, tell me, do you know how many of us are alive?" she asked with a look of curiosity in her eyes.
