Raphael or Roxanne as she had been named was wandering around the lab. She didn't like it one bit, and the fact her siblings weren't as bothered by it didn't sit well with her. Everything was so cold and sterile right down to the person they served. She had kept her feelings to herself not to be berated by her siblings or worse, 'Having "that man" find out' she thought as a shiver ran through her body. The stillness of everything unnerved her greatly especially since her brothers and sisters were no where to be found which was quite unusual. As she walked down the halls, she heard several strangled cries which shot her straight into her heart.
'Those people, they're suffering and I can't get to all of them' she thought, tears escaping her gray eyes. Despite being naive in many matters, she at least knew and recognized suffering being the angele of healing. 'Even if I can't help them all, please guide me to the one who most needs my help' she thought as she felt herself drawn to a large door.
She gulped a bit, unsure of what kind of experiment could be behind the door. Many times she had encountered a few that were very violent which led to her own injury to the point her eldest brother forbade her from going near any more of them. 'What does he know? He doesn't understand that I can't stand idle if I know people are suffering' she thought, opening the door. She poked her head inside, looking around as honey gold locks slipped from her ribbon. "Hello, is anyone there?" she asked, stepping inside as her heels made a small clacking sound against the metal floor.

It had been a well-known fact while the lead scientist on his project had been alive that he had been taught how to make tea just perfectly. He had been used to deliever it to the man (and eventually some of his friends) up until the man had been killed in the witch attack. It was an incident still fresh in everyone's minds, even the blind boy's.
Blinking his unseeing, fogged over eyes, Fortune sat down on his plain white bed. Ever since the death of his master, no one had been assigned to overtake his project. Apparently these new synthetic shifters were getting all the attention now that there were some successes. This didn't mean that Fortune was complaining about his situation in any way, though.
No, he was grateful to no longer have to go through that torture. He remembered it all so clearly, remembered how the man looked, even, the image was burned into his eyes quite literally. Ever since the molding process had begun, he had lost the majority of his sight. He could still make out shapes and some color, but detail was a complete loss.
He heard the door to his room open, and he thought that maybe, just maybe it could be Zavien. If it were, he'd ask what the boy was doing here. The other scientists didn't seem to like the trainee hanging out with an experiment so much, even if he was "the help" as well.
But it wasn't. He could see the light, airy figure-- perhaps a woman? "Wh-who are you?" he asked with a slight shaking to his voice. If this was a scientist woman, he did NOT want to be taken to the examination rooms to have things prodded into his eyes. Not again.

Another shot of pain was felt in her heart at the fear in the other person's voice. They looked petite, possibly a girl though Roxanne couldn't tell. "Don't be afraid, I'm not one of them if you're wondering that" she said softly, walking slowly over to the experiment. "I'm sorry for intruding, but..." she paused for a moment, unsure of what to say. 'Well, I certainly can't tell him what I am, and how I find this place. Think Raphael, think' she thought, her brow furrowing in thought.
"I was trying to find someone, but I got lost" she said, "however that person can wait. I can't help noticing how sad and scared you are. Why is that?" Once she was fairly close to Fortune, she sat down on the cold floor which caused her to shiver. She was always told that what was done here was for the greater good, but lately, seeing what was taking place made her seriously question everything she had been told.
'If what we're doing is good, then why is there so much pain being felt?' she thought, feeling tears sting her eyes. The worst part is being the only person to really feel this way. Her siblings seemed to have no care for what was happening. They were either ignorant to it or apathetic, and Roxanne wasn't sure which was worse. "Let me introduce myself properly, My name is Roxanne Snow, and what's your name little one?" she asked in a kind, gentle voice.

It wasn't like Zavien's, but it wasn't like the other scientists' either. Well, he didn't think she was an experiment. Otherwise she wouldn't have felt free to just walk in and start talking to him. He didn't trust that she wasn't a scientist, but who could blame him after all he had been through, really? Of course, the only person to show any ounce of caring had been Zavien, but he was still worried the boy had didfferent motives up his sleeve. No, Fortune was not normally a trusting person.
"What do you mean, you really don't know?" Fortune asked, unable to keep the coldness from his voice. If this was a cruel joke, he didn't want any part in it. He wasn't going to fall for anything that easily and just have his heart crushed. The scientists were real bastards, toying with your head and making you feel worthless. He knew he shouldn't speak too harshly to her, though, else she might punish him.
He gazed at her weerily, unseeing. "Roxanne?" she was giving him her first name, just as Zavien had. Maybe... maybe she was a friend of his. Zavien hadn't mentioned friends, though. "Fortune Embers..." truth be told, it wasn't his real name, just one he had been given by the man working on his project. "Or Number 401 if you'd prefer," he tucked his knees to his chest once he'd sat back down on his bed.

"No, I don't know" she said softly, her voice trembling a bit as she spoke. The coldness in his voice was hard to hear, but she could understand it since she was kept locked down here too. 'Though perhaps not to the extent that he is' she thought to herself. She felt a few tears escape her stormy gray eyes, and fall onto the cold ground. She felt like a heel for not knowing all of this, and even worse that what she did know was probably the tip of the ice berg.
"Fortune, I really like that name" she said softly, "and I'll never call you by a number. It's not right to be called something so impersonal and cold." Was that really how these people were treated? Called by numbers, and not their names. All of this was being processed in her mind. All she knew was she was drawn to his room for a reason, and she wanted to help him.
"Fortune, please tell me what they did? I know you may find it hard to trust me, but I hope you can believe me when I say I want to be able to help you even if it's just lending a friendly ear. I want to be a friend you you" she said softly, scooting a bit closer to Fortune.
