you sound so i n n o c e n tso full of good intent - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The world looked so much different when you were less than half a foot tall; when Faye was in her fennec fox form everything seemed so big. She felt like there was so much to explore, and she was excited to get to it. It was hard to contain her excitement in her little body, as these foxes were known to be spastic even when they weren't actually eight year old girls. But it fit her. She scurried under bushes and around trees at a sprint, so happy to be out running that shrill barks randomly tore her throat. She ran past many startled small animals, and sometimes she saw the leaves shaking where one had heard her cries and fled. She almost thought to be embarrassed for herself, but this was the first time she had been alone and free (almost) since she had arrived on this island. Not that she didn't love Elliot; she felt complete with him. That was the only bad thing slightly marring her run.. Too bad Elliot couldn't turn into a fun animal like she could.
"Be safe. Just a quick run. Don't go too far." His parting words echoed in her head, full of brotherly concern. She slowed to a stop and looked behind her, wondering then how far she had run. She had been enjoying it so much that she had lost track of time. Had it been ten minutes? Half an hour? It was hard to tell where she might be when she was so little. Her breath was coming in pants now that she had slowed, adrenaline subsiding. Maybe if she just waited a few minutes and explored, then she would know which direction to go.
She sat on the ground and used her hind legs to push at the elastic hair band around her waist that held her swimsuit to her torso. Elliot had strapped it on, saying that it was the easiest thing to carry at her size. The stretchier, the better. She struggled to get it past her ears---they were just so big---and felt it move over her head with a pop. She waited for a moment, listening for movement before she transformed. When she heard no one, she quickly changed and threw on her bathing suit, a little paranoid. Who knows what kind of creepy people could be hiding out there?
At this height (which, honestly, wasn't as high as she'd like to be sometimes) it was easier to make more sense of where she was. Not that she had ever been to the cemetery here... Or anywhere, for that matter. The only person in her life to have died was her grandma, and her parents had thought she was too young at the time to go. And Elliot had only mentioned this particular one in passing, with a wave of his hand. Little tremors ran over Faye's skin. It was more than a little scary. There were dead people. Under the ground. Fifteen yards from where she was standing. But she had never been a cemetery before, and even though curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back, right?
She crept toward the nearest headstone, tiptoeing even though she figured, hopefully, that nobody could hear her. In a few seconds she was creeping around the edge of it, walking the length of the grave to stand at the end. She was careful not to step on it, an image of a hand grabbing at her ankles stopping her. The epitaph was one that she had heard before: "In Loving Memory..." She started moving down the row, reading the headstones. It made her sad that so many people were gone. What did their families do when they left?
She passed by multiple headstones, glancing at the words engraved on them. A Free Spirit.. A Memory To Be Ever With Us.. Always In Our Hearts.. There were a lot that she didn't really get. Why did they use such weird wording? And Now Cometh Eternal Rest And Blessed Tranquility..?
About halfway down the first row, she ran across one that was faded, difficult to read from age. She leaned in to read it, curious. Her foot sank into the grave and she shrieked, frightened. She pulled her leg out and scrambled to the back of the nearest grave, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. It had tried to eat her! She stayed with her back against the marble behind her, eyeing the hole in the ground warily. She almost expected someone to crawl out of it and claw at her shins. But that couldn't happen, right? Instead she closed her eyes and hummed a tune to calm herself, leaning her head back to face the sky.

It was evidently too much to ask for, just one simple hour left alone. No, this island was never going to let that happen for him. Here Pleasant had been hopeful that he would be able to get at least a few minutes. Evidently he wasn't the only one that had little to no respect for the graves, well that had been proven with that deer girl he had met here last time. He hadn't seen her for a while either, which was odd. Maybe she was lost with those others he had heard about, ah well he would find out later. No, what mattered now was that horrid squeaking noise that seemed to be flying off the stone head markers.
Pleasant clinched his eyes shut with his back still against that one head stone just wishing for it to be over. He wasn't turning to see what it was, he just wanted some bloody alone time. Then as quickly as it started it stopped and Pleasant lay against the stone with his eyes still closed hoping whatever was making that horrid noise had finally left.
Yet that relative quiet was interupted this time by a young scream, that made him open his eyes in an instant. He listened and then looked up noticing the young girl leaning over from the other side staring up into the clouds. "Are you alright?" he asked watching the frieghtened little girl. you sound so i n n o c e n tso full of good intent - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Faye jumped slightly as she heard another voice joined her, confused. She thought she was alone. It confused her more that the voice sounded younger than she was used to hearing here. She turned around and pulled herself over the headstone, resting her weight on her stomach while her feet dangled behind her. "Oh, hello!" she said, instantly cheerful. It was a boy! He looked older than her, but his age seemed close enough to her's to get her excited. She didn't know any other kids were here. "The grave just tried to swallow my leg! But I got away in time. So I guess I'm okay."
She pulled herself off of the headstone and walked around to where he was sitting, distracted enough to forget about where they were for the moment. "My name's Faye. What's yours?" she asked as she plopped down indian-style beside him. Faye wondered idly if he was feeling okay; he did have a kind of sickly look to him with those dark circles under his eyes. Maybe he hadn't been sleeping well? She always fell asleep to Elliot telling her stories or talking to her until she nodded off; what if she lent him to this boy for a night? Elliot always told the funniest stories, even if they didn't always make that much sense, and maybe they'd make him feel better.
She held out her hand to shake and noticed, also, how fair he was. She had already started tanning from all of the sun exposure since she had arrived, so why wasn't he? "Your skin's really pale," she pointed out bluntly, tilting her head to the side. "Do you stay inside a lot? I'm outside all of the time, and I'm already getting darker, see?" She held out her arms and twisted them at different angles, showing off her tan. Her parents had never let her spend too much time outside; it was an accomplishment for her to have color on her skin. "Soo... Why haven't I seen you around here? I've been here for a little while, now." she asked, pulling her arms back and watching him with wide eyes. If there was another kid here...maybe they could be friends! She was practically bouncing inside at the idea. Of course, he was a boy, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

He gave a small smile at the young girl, so animated and talkative. He never guessed he would meet a child that was actually acting their own age and not just stuck like himself. It was interesting to say the least, he didn't think they would be able to survive on her own though she probably had someone looking out for her. Damn children nowadays sticking so close to adults, made it much harder for them to just 'disappear'.
"I'm Pleasant," he replied to the question, using his real name for once on this island because it was fun with kids for they had such a hard time believing that was an actual name. Yes he didn't have a simple name like the children nowadays with the thousands of James and such nonsense like that.
"Mmhhmm," he said absent minded to her statements and question more entertained with that little arm she was flipping around in front of his face. He gave her another smile trying not to think about the last time he had eaten, "I usually don't get out much. I'm not usually allowed but since we got here I've been able to." We're All Toys

you sound so i n n o c e n tso full of good intent - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Pleasant?" Faye repeated, one of her eyebrows rising. When he didn't respond, she said it again, "Pleasant." She let out a giggle, and then another, and then broke into a delighted laugh, rolling onto her back in the grass. Her peals of laughter echoed through the trees for a few moments, quieting some of the animals. She tried to calm herself and sat back up to face him, her cheeks lifted as she held herself back. "That's a weird name," she said with another giggle. "But I like it. Pleasant." She beamed at him, high-spirited.
She pulled at some of the blades of grass tickling her legs, splitting them apart in her fingers."You weren't allowed?" she questioned, unsure about what he meant. Did this have to do with the shadows under his eyes? Maybe he was sick, and his parents didn't want to let him outside because they didn't want him to get worse? Faye's smile lessened a bit. She didn't want anything to happen to her new friend. If he was sick it'd be very unpleasant. "Why weren't you allowed outside before? I would go crazy if I could never go outside," she shook her head as if the idea were unheard of. "I'm glad you can come out more now, though. Maybe we can go exploring somewhere together to celebrate! Elliot might want to come, though." She smiled up at Pleasant, her mood beginning another increase. "You'd like him. He's really nice. He was the very first person I met when I came here." Her lips curled up again as she thought of him, recalling how protective he was over her. "He's my favorite."

His hand gripped tightly in his lap as to not strangle the girl when she had repeated his name over and over sending her into that giggle fit. Didn't the little brat know how annoying, not to mention how rude, that was? His Eyes watching her movements, the thought of ripping her like she did the grass was so very tempting at the moment.
"My....," Pleasant paused for a moment trying to think of the right thing to say, "My skin and the sun don't work well together. I have to be careful and stuff." Ugh, his own speech was making him want to gag himself. What the hell was the word 'stuff' anyways? It was horrid, just absolutely horrid and he hoped whoever made that word so nondescript was burning.
"Elliot?" he asked perking up at the name of another. Someone else was watching the girl? Well, that wasn't hard to figure out considering her blind child-like acceptance to everything. Though whoever this 'Elliot' was he wasn't doing quite so good a job considering the girl was now sitting with one who good very easily make her end be right then and there. Maybe if her get a little tan, first, you won't burn as much. That's what my mom always did." she nodded solemnly, as if this would be the answer to all of his problems. "I mean, I would say use sunblock... But I don't know if there's any of that stuff here." She paused at pulling the blades of grass apart and got onto her knees, reaching across the distance between them to pluck a dandelion that was maybe six inches from his legs, then snapping back to her own spot as he repeated Elliot's name.
"Elliot!" she said excitedly. "He takes care of me. He was the first one I met, here. I kind of think of him like my big brother." She looked up at the darkening sky, suddenly more aware of how he must be feeling at the moment. "He's probably getting worried. I wasn't supposed to be gone so long. But it'll be okay once he knows I just met you. If I were alone I think he'd get mad at me for not going straight back." She thought back to the circles under his eyes, and how she thought at first that he might be sick. "You could meet him sometime, if you want," she suggested, smiling. Elliot would like Pleasant, she just knew it.

"Sure," he said after her whole tirade about skin and sunblock. He doubted there was a sunblock that would truly protect his skin, but he would let it go. Honestly, this girl just would not shut her trap and it was annoying as hell.
If he could, she would have lost her head right there and then he could enjoy the rest of his nap out here in peace and quiet again. Though a headless girl would be quite troublesome if someone showed up like that Elliot person for example.
"Ah," he said as she went into a whole new direction going more in depth of this man she was so attached too. "That would be nice, " he smiled hoping that maybe pleasing her would get her to stop for at least a moment. It was a hopeless wish but still one he made. Though if he did meet this Elliot then it would make it easier, gain both their trusts and then it would be like a two for one for him. Well, maybe this little brat wasn't that useless after all.
