He had been expecting the witch.
Dr. Mudo stood up from his chair in the rather spartan little room, its plain white-washed walls gleaming in the harsh electric light. An orderly wheeled in a flat hospital-type bed, an unconscious Lilith strapped down at its center. He dismissed the woman wordlessly with a wave of his hand and turned his attention to the witch. He would have liked to see Nero's reaction to waking up in a laboratory, powerless to help his precious "mate," but alas, they had other uses for the black wolf.
Meanwhile, he had Lilith. He unfastened the straps holding the witch down to the bed. There would be no need for those. But it was no fun if he was unconscious. The doctor took a syringe of adrenaline from the table of instruments laid out for him and injected it into Lilith's arm. It wouldn't be long before it took effect. He pulled the chair up next to the bed and sat down to wait.
"Come now, my little witch," he said in a near whisper, a sinister smirk darkening his features. "We haven't got all day."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To feel yourself being ripped from a peaceful sleep wasn't the best feeling. There was a gasp from the witch as his blue eyes snapped open and he gazed wilkdly about the room, taking everything in. No, why was he back here? Were his dreams becoming more vivid as of late? It scared him to think so. He didn't want to remember his time spent here, his wish had been so strong that he'd forgotten about the scientists existance for over a year.
But now, here he was in the same room with the man he feared, the man whose face and voice he'd first heard when he'd woken up in a room similar than this before. The witch flinched and started to crawl backwards on the bed, no longer restrained, until he had himself pressed against the wall, as if it'd offer some sort of shelter. He didn't know why, but he couldn't access his magic. He knew it had something to do with this place.
And yet, without his magic, Lilith felt weak and helpless and he despised those feelings. He was supposed to be powerful and feared- but this man took all of that away from him. "Dr. Mudo..." he whispered, no longer able to forget the man's name when he was staring at him. "What do you want?" he hissed

Mudo watched the witch crawl backwards and press himself up against the wall in an effort to put as much distance between them as possible. Without his magic, Lilith was powerless, the fear showing plainly on his girlish face. The doctor snickered quietly to himself. It had been too long, far too long. More than a year now, wasn't it? And yet, with all the work he had been doing, time had seemed to go by so quickly. It felt like forever since he had seen the witch face-to-face, and yet he remembered it as clearly as if it had been yesterday. How odd.
"Every animal released into the wild must be brought back in to check on its progress periodically," he said in answer to Lilith's question.
He stood up from the chair and retrieved a sort of helmet-looking contraption with wires attached all over it from a shelf in the corner of the room. The wires ran back to a computer near the shelf so it could record the data it received. He came back to the bed with it and smiled down at Lilith not-so-kindly.
"Now, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. The easy way is, you let me put this on your head without a struggle so I can map your brain activity. The hard way... well, I don't think you want to find out what that is. So let's not make a fuss about this, all right?"
With that, he reached out to settle the device on Lilith's head.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lilith attempted to stare at the doctor with the hate and disgust he really felt, but all he could do was stare blindly at the man in fear as he put the contraption on him. Immediately he felt a little zap and his body gave an involuntary jerk. He hated these tests, hated how degrading they were. He speculated that the scientists made their procedures as painful as possible in order to break their experiments' spirits. The witch grimaced, trying to show no pain even as he felt like his mind was being clawed at.
"You unimaginable bastard..." he seethed, though he doubted the words would harm the man too much. His ego was bigger than the island. The witch's body was shaking from the pain he had been put under, and his fingers twisted on the hard bed's sheets. He hated this place and he hated this man. He wanted to get out of here, NOW. But he knew better than to throw a fit without proper preparation. If he couldn't take on Mudo and get out of here, he could risk harming himself AND Nero, and quite honestly, he was more afraid of himself.
The witch twisted on the table, fighting with himself until the pain subsided and he was freed, the contraption taken off of his head. He breathed hard and stared at the man with hate in his crystal eyes. Yes, Lilith hated this man, this... monster, a man who was worse than any witch or the seven sins combined- it was as if he was an extension of sin itself, no good filled his heart. Lilith hissed, then, feral, like a cat as he back up with a growl in his throat. Fear and Hatred were all he felt.

A malicious grin spread slowly across the scientist's face as he watched Lilith practically writhe in agony. It was nearly impossible to hurt the witch while he had his magic, but inside of this room magic was nullified. Mudo had engineered the brain-scanning process to simulate what he imagined the pain and sense of mental violation would be if one actually had his or her thoughts sucked out of their mind. Yes, this could have been done with only slight discomfort, but where was the fun in that? Besides, there was an old saying that you could only meet a person's true self in the most dire of circumstances. Pain and suffering tended to bring reality to the surface, shedding the facade.
The brain scan finished, Mudo removed the device from Lilith's head and placed it back on the shelf.
"'Unimaginable bastard,' am I?" he repeated, chuckling softly at his new nickname and the witch's hissing. "Surely, you can do better than that. But I do believe all the time you've been spending with your beloved mutt Nero has made you soft, Lilith--not to mention, given you some rather animal-like affectations."
He leaned over the bed, taking Lilith's wrist gently in his hand, and put his face close enough to the witch's ear that he could have kissed it if he'd wanted to.
"Hissing does not become you, my dear," he whispered.
Without a moment's notice, he tightened his grip painfully and twisted, breaking the fragile bones of Lilith's wrist easily, then let go, all in one fluid motion.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As the doctor grabbed his hand, Lilith tried to jerk back, but his body was frozen. He could only stare at the man with wide, fearful eyes.
The snapping of his wrist made the witch cry out in pain. The worst part was that he felt the pain. As a witch he had never felt pain, not unless he was here. This laboratory was the only thing that caused him to become afraid. "Don't talk about him like that," the witch spoke defiantly, eyes darkening. He couldn't help that his affection for Nero ran strong.
And it was easily readable, he wouldn't have been able to hide it even if he tried. He knew that denying his affection would only bring pain to Nero.
He cradled his injured wrist and hand, staring in mild fascination at his own fragility. This was why Nero had never let him out of his sight. Even with Lilith's immense powers and capabilities, he was still incredibly weak physically, a toll of his psychic capabilities.
Inside, though, he was raging. He would find a way out of this place, and he would have his revenge on the insane doctor-- even if his life depended on it. he just needed to find a way to beat the barrier than prevented him from performing further magic.
And he needed to figure it out, soon.

Lilith's reaction to the pain was less satisfying than the doctor had anticipated, since the witch's mind seemed to be preoccupied with other thoughts, perhaps concern for his wolf lover. But the surprise at feeling pain at all showed through, and Mudo enjoyed that more than anything. After having spent so much time with his experiments, he had become accustomed to a limited range of reactions to pain. Surprise was not usually one of them. He appreciated the novelty.
At the witch's angry reproach, Mudo actually laughed out loud. Imagine someone speaking to him so gruffly! None of his colleagues dared talk back to him quite like that, out of fear or respect or a combination of the two. Lilith had certainly grown a pair since they last met. He liked that. It made things much more interesting.
"Tell me," Mudo asked, sitting down in the chair by the bed again, "What exactly do you see in a creature like Nero? He's not even completely human. Does that not repulse you? Or do you enjoy his wolf form? Why do you feel so strongly toward him?"
